Places to stay on Koh Mak

Good Time Resort and Koh Mak Villa & Rayang Island Resort, Koh Rayang

Koh Mak and Koh Rayang: Pearls in the Gulf of Siam

Background information: Koh Mak is one of Thailand's secret treasures, situated in the Marine National Park. The island is 16 km² and is located in the Gulf of Siam, between Koh Chang and Koh Kut.

To take advantage of Koh Mak's tropical climate, the best time for travelling is between November and March. While Europe is cold and wet, one can escape to Koh Mak with blue skies and temperatures reaching 35 C.

The island is ideal for a relaxing stress-free break; one can spend the time swimming,  sunbathing, walking or reading a good book. For the more adventurous traveller, Koh Mak also offers a range of activities including diving, snorkelling, windsurfing and mountain biking. There are opportunities to explore the other islands with organized tours or independently (boat charter).

Koh Mak is the biggest privately owned island in Thailand with over 90% of the island still being owned by members on one extended local family. Since 1987 the island has slowly developed to accommodate visitors.

Koh Mak has about 700 inhabitants, 10,000 palm trees, 1 temple, 14 resorts, a few shops, 3 fisherman's villages, 1 primary school, 1 island hospital, 2 diving schools and a market.

Although the island is still largely undiscovered, it has a very good infrastructure including 24 hour electricity and easy access to the mainland and Koh Chang by regular ferry services.

Villa at Goodtime ResortGood Time Resort

A comfortable open air and covered outdoor seating area with views out to sea and across the island are found on all houses and villas. The 130sqm villas are suitable for families or anyone who enjoys having a lot of space to relax in on holiday.

View from Koh Mak VillaKoh Mak Villa

Koh Mak Holiday Villas are on the highest point of Koh Mak Island, one of the last unspoilt islands in the Gulf of Thailand.   The two luxury villas have majestic views along the beach and towards Koh Chang in the distance.  This is the best boutique accommodation Koh Mak has to offer. Guests can book an entire villa or a single room.

The two villas are built in a modern tropical style and each have 3 ensuite bedrooms, indoor & outdoor dining areas and a kitchen . . . plus  360° panoramic views and a cooling sea breeze.

Each of the villas is ideal for a family of 4 - 6. A small bistro serves meals cooked to order and a wide range of drinks, including a selection of good wines are available.

There are two excellent beaches within 200 metres walk, 5 restaurants on the beach within 5 minutes walk and scuba diving / windsurfing facilities nearby

If you're looking for a little bit of luxury and seclusion then Koh Mak Villa is well work considering.

Rayang Island Resort is a 15 bungalow resort on the small island of Koh Ranang which lies just over 1km off the west coast of Koh Mak.  This is the only resort on the island and has 15 bungalows, some with one bedroom, others with two.  The resort has electricity but the bungalows don't have airconditioning.  A fan and sea breeze are all that you need to sleep comfortably.

This isn't a place for anyone looking to be pampered, but if you want to get as far away from the noise and crowds of everyday life as possible then Rayang Resort is for you.

Bungalows are built only a stones throw from the white sand beach beach and there's a small restaurant at the resort.  A free boat service to Koh Mak is also provided as are sea canoes.
