I didn't set out to look for crap signs they just sort of struck me when I
was in White Sand Beach the other day and saw a couple of prime examples.
Therefore, this is the page where I'll
be adding a few pics of signs which leave a lot to be desired for whatever
reason.

One of two
resorts on Koh Chang where you can sample an authentic, illegal Chinese
immigrant experience by staying in a converted container. WTF?
Full marks to
the owner for having the balls to use the word 'container' plus a picture of
a container on the sign - you can't say they haven't warned you that you won't
be getting a grass roofed, beachfront bungalow.
May '05 and the sign disappeared to be
replaced by the one in the lower photo. Your room is still a container but
at least it's a charming one.

All
the usual types of massage, plus if you were in any doubt that 'special
massages' weren't being offered here . . . a 'viagra massage'. No
doubt this is another highlight of the island that the tourism authority
will fail to promote. |

Couldn't take a photo of this sign as it's inside 'V-Mart' mini-marts on
White Sand Beach Beach
and Klong Prao .
"Shoplifters will have to pay
a bit more if they get caught." It's not really on a par with
"Shoplifters will be prosecuted to the fullest extent of the law" when it comes to stern warnings and the
promise of dire circumstances should you get caught. |

A
meeting was convened, the sole topic - 'How to protect Koh Chang's
natural beauty for years to come'. The chosen option?
Stick up a large metal sign. ( It was that or implement some rules
and regulations that might piss off a few property developers.) If
you're an environmentalist and can explain just what this sign does that
protects the nature - other than providing a bit of shade for a small
piece of it - let me know. |

One
I'm going to complain to the appropriate Trading Standards authority
about. I took a quick look at the cars for rent and not one of
them was low riding, alloy wheeled, lime green VW Beetle complete with
plastic Jesus on the dashboard and furry seats. Yes, they have Mexican
food but no, not one Mexican car. |

One
man's definition of world famous is never the same as another's, is it?
For me, 'world famous' would mean that at least half a dozen people
outside a 1 km radius of your place had heard of it. Or failing
that at least half a dozen people within a 1km radius had. I'm
sure it's delicious anyway, although not a patch on my near legendary
cheese and ham toastie. |

The
first, only and, by default, winner of Koh Chang's Best Irish Pub 2005
award. If you're in need
of a draught Guinness, you'll have to bring your own, as unfortunately
the Irish theme only extends as far as painting the interior walls of
the 4 metre x 6 metre shop unit lime green. A tropical twist is
added by using bamboo for the tables and chairs. Must be the only Irish
pub that isn't strewn with bric-a-brac, which is a plus of sorts I
guess.
