Mam hard at work |
We came back to Koh Chang in late
October. With us was a new arrival. We had now entered into new
territory. There was the patter of tiny footsteps around the house,
early nights and very early mornings and umpteen night-time trips to the toilet
to factor into our lifestyle. Yep, Mam's mum had
come to stay with us.
Lueng Chai, our builder, had been
keeping an eye on the house while we were away and apart from our neighbour
'borrowing' 10,000 baht worth of wood that we were going to use to build our
bridge nothing eventful had happened. September's war of the
neighbours had fizzled out, nothing came of any threats to knock down
illegally built houses, footbridges, jetties etc. However, one piece
of very good news greeted us. Apparently there is such a thing as
karma, also known in western circles as 'come uppance'. It turned out
that our neighbour from hell, the OK Diving boss, had borrowed the money to
pay for his house and now either didn't want to or couldn't repay it.
The new owner is another guy we know well and so the original plan for our
footbridge was revived and it was off to Cookie Restaurant for a celebratory
meal.
Whilst we were 'toing and froing'
between Bangkok, Banpong, Rayong & Koh Chang we managed to find time to get
hold of some soft furnishings - sheets, mats & curtains - from
Chatuchak market in Bangkok. The rooms are going to look pretty nice
when they're finished. The end of October was spent with me painting
stuff, Mam re-grouting bathroom tiles and Mam's mum settling into her new
role in life as the person who keeps an eye on the dog whilst he's chasing
fish.

Big bamboo beds in the rooms |
The very end of October saw my first
visit by a couple who wanted to know if I was "the guy who did the website".
The island is slowly getting busier now, and the following few days also
brought visitors at least two of whom had read this site and found it
useful. Ahhhh, the power of the internet, I now know how Jeff Bezos felt
when Amazon got their first online order. So, if you're
wandering around Klong Prao beach, call in for a chat or ignore me & swim
with the dog in the river. We might even put up a sign as the house is
hard to find.
