The East of Koh Mak
If you look at a tourist map of Koh Mak
you'll see that there are two main beaches on the western side of the
island, the east seems pretty deserted - that's because it is. There
are a few small hamlets here occupied by sea gypsies living in
ramshackle huts plus a few small, out of the way bungalow resorts but that's
about it.
What this means is that Koh Mak is a
much better island to explore by mountain bike (or motorbike) than Koh
Chang. It's small enough so that you can't get lost but large enough
so that you can get off the beaten track and follow narrow tracks through
the jungle and rubber plantations.
One of the better roads on this side of
the island.

Which soon turns into roads like this

And you know you're getting further
away from civilization when the road looks like this.

Follow pretty much any of the dirt
tracks that you see and you'll eventually end up by the sea. This is
the beach at the north east of Koh Mak looking out towards Koh Kradad

Green View Resort is located here.
Not particularly interesting bungalows but if you want to be by the sea and
well out of walking distance of anyone else then it's OK.

Take another dirt track and you end up
with a view of Koh Kradad from the far east of Koh Mak

You also might see some interesting
things washed up on the shore, such as this damaged speedboat.

Inland there are areas where srcubland
has been cleared for planting rubber trees, however certain species of trees
are protected

One place to seek out if you want
a little hippy hideaway on Koh Mak is 'Little Moon', follow the signs.

Finally, another beach photo, this
stretch of beach has been bought by a property developer - visit now before
the shoreline is lined with concrete.
