Day on the Boat
These photos were taken on two separate
days in mid-November when I went out on our speedboat with a few people who
had hired it for a day to go snorkelling. The weather was good, there
were very few people around and, as you can see, some of the views aren't
bad.
Local fishermen who moored up near a popular
snorkelling island. Possibly because this is a sheltered area, but probably
because there are loads of girls in bikinis to wave to on the tour boats.

Koh Yak Lek - just a small rocky outcrop but a nice
swim with very clear water most of the time.

Big brother is watching you. The Marine
Department had their big boat from Bangkok out and about.

Monkeys on the Bangbao peninsula, you can see them in the late afternoon
almost everyday.

More monkeys. if you want to see them you'll
have to be on a boat that heads along the west coast, any boat sailing out
of Bangbao to the snorkelling islands won't pass by this area. Thai
Fun will stop their big boat so guests can throw fruit for the monkeys.

The pier at Koh Wai with Koh Chang in the distance.

Koh Wai beach in the late afternoon, after the tour
boats have gone home.

Inside our boat with Tony & Duang the couple who hired
it for the day upfront.

Looking back to Koh Mak with Sam's yacht moored up.
(Charter it through Gulf Charters, Salakphet.)

Nice scenic view of Koh Mak, taken from Koh Rang

If you ever wanted to invade a small island one of
these leftovers from the Vietnam War would be handy.

The water's pretty clear once you get away from Koh
Chang.

Getting a little bit artistic with the
photography

If you haven't snorkelled before we'll take you here
to practice before heading off the the spots with more fish. A nice
little beach with no-one around to laugh as you drink seawater through your
snorkel.

Leaving Koh Chang behind as we go down the west coast.

Your boat might break down and you could be stuck here
for days, living off nothing but cold beer and Thai curries from a
nearby restaurant.

Will I see any fish? A common enough question
- the answer is Yes. Loads of them.

speedboat for the day to see if the photos above do the islands justice . .
