The (new) Koh Chang Photo Pages

The Southwest of Koh Mak, Ao Sai Khao

Most visitors to Koh Mak will stay in this area.  A long expanse of sand covers the southwestern shore of the island leading several kilometres from Holiday beach resort at the north end to the now defunct Panorama Resort at the southern tip of the island.

There are no large hotels here.  Accommodation is in small bungalow resorts which range from the backpacker accommodation of TK Hut & Lazy Days up to the air conditioned comfort of the new Makathanee Resort.  Most resorts occupy the middle ground as far as pricing goes with bungalows from 1,000 - 2,000 baht/night.

Starting up at the northwestern end of the beach, looking along the sand.

If you look out to sea here you'll see the island of Koh Rayang Nai.  Usually you'd need to swim there but at very low tide you can walk out to it.

There's nothing on the island  - it's uninhabited, no construction other than this chedi where a previous owner of the island is buried.

Nice view from the chedi looking towards Koh Mak

Back on Koh Mak Holiday Beach Resort have a nice boat chalet or possibly a houseboat

Accommodation at Holiday Beach Resort - the bungalows wont win awards for architecture but they're quiet and functional.

Some older bungalows just off the beach - a lick of paint and a mattress on the floor and they'll be ready for next high season.

Wherever you stay on this beach you'll get good views of Koh Kood in the distance.

Bungalow at TK Hut, right by the sea

Going slightly more upmarket, the bungalows adjacent to Makthanee Resort's pier

The newest accommodation on the beach - Makathanee Resort

Baan Koh Mak - well worth considering if you want to stay on this beach.  Very good restaurant too.

Beach outside Makathanee Resort and Baan Koh Mak

Moving back into backpacker territory again with Koh Mak Cottage - a 'U' of multicoloured, cheap bungalows

Next door Monkey Island was one of the nicest resorts on the island but unfortunately is now looking very run down and in need of repair.

And the beach continues south, past Island Hut, to Ao Kao Resort where you'll find a couple of secluded sandy bays to either side of the resort.
