The (new) Koh Chang Photo Pages

Kanchanaburi & area

We chose to stay here mainly as it's an easy drive to Bkk Airport and also it's a quiet, laid back area with plenty to keep you amused for a few days. There are a couple of National Parks in the area, good golf courses, various historical sites, lots of places to eat and sleep etc.

It's only been open under  a year but Oriental Kwai Resort is pretty much the best place to stay in the area.  An example of how a small resort should be planned, built and managed.  Only 10 bungalows in a great location with great staff.  If you don't believe me check out the rave reviews on Tripadvisor website.  Should be on your shortlist of places to stay if you plan on visiting the area.

Erawan National Park.  A good day out walking in the park with plenty of waterfalls to see, with water in them all year round

Huge leaf from a 50cm tall teak sapling at Oriental Kwai Resort

Couple of pics of Oriental Kwai.

Bridge over the River Kwai.  Have to go there and walk across it, or if you are lazy take the small train for 20 baht.  In the town there is a very good small museum next to the main cemetery. One of the most interesting, informative, well laid out museums you'll come across.  Even if you aren't a history buff you should find the actual story of the railway interesting.

The Tiger Temple at Kanchaburi.  Good point is that you can get very up close with a tiger.  Bad points are pretty much everything else about the place.
