Koh Chang related
stories from The Nation's & Bangkok Post's archives plus a couple from Thai papers.
As can be seen from the articles, 2002
was when the government announced their masterplan for Koh Chang - but
2001's story gives an insight as to how it came about. It's
interesting to look back on those articles and see how many of their grand
visions
have come to fruition . . . . or not.
For example: Is Koh Chang now spoken of in the
same breath as the Maldives and St Tropez by globetrotting elite tourists? Were locals ever paid compensation to avoid
them selling off their land to big businessmen? Are bicycles the main form
of transport on the island or do we all use boats to nip to the shops?
2007 lagged well behind 2005 &
2006 in terms of stories relating to the island and 2008 is off to a
slow start and you'll notice no stories about development / grand plans for
the island now appear.
